Why I Ran This Lake

My husband actually found Findley Lake while looking through races on the Buffalo Running calendar. There was a race scheduled around the lake the weekend after my half marathon, but being fresh off 13.1 miles, I wasn’t up for racing again. Instead, we made the trip yesterday for a long training run. It ended up being a great way to experience the lake.

🏃 The Run

Three laps around Findley Lake. The heat and humidity were brutal and made the miles feel much tougher than the distance alone. Rather than worrying about pace, the focus became staying steady, and honestly, I should have quit after two laps since I was drenched with sweat. My husband had to bring me Gatorade and take my shirt from me during my final lap.

🌅 Scenery Notes

Findley Lake is was picturesque with beautiful waterfront homes and lake views. The rolling hills and quiet roads make for a scenic run. So many people were out enjoying the water, water skiing, jet skiing and swimming and a good number of people said hello to me.

🍽️ Post-Run Fuel

After the run, we grabbed a burger at Alexander’s on the Lake before heading to Sunnyside Creamery for a blue dragon ice cream cone. It was the perfect way to cool off after a hot morning of running.

🗒️ Notes for Next Time

Start earlier if hot weather is in the forecast and wear hydration vest!
