⭐ Why I Ran This Lake

Lake Audubon at Walton Woods Park has been on my list for a while, and yesterday felt like the perfect day to tackle it. After a string of cold days, it was beautiful out — sunny and just warm enough to enjoy the early spring scenery. My goal was a maintenance long run: steady miles to keep rhythm and mileage up while soaking in the calm water and wooded surroundings. Running 10–11 laps for this 7-mile workout was meditative, each lap offering a slightly different perspective of the lake.

🏃🏼‍♀️The Run

Ten to eleven laps around Lake Audubon, totaling 7 miles. The trail is fully paved, with a few puddles from recent melting snow. Footing was easy for the most part, just needing a little attention in the wetter spots. I kept a steady pace throughout, finishing in 1:00:22, which felt strong for this kind of maintenance run.

There were so many dog walkers out enjoying the sunshine! One gentleman looked down at his watch as I passed and said, “You’re fast.” That little moment made me smile and kept my energy up for the next lap.

🌅 Scenery Notes

The lake is framed by a mix of open water and forested areas, giving each lap a slightly different vibe. The sunny weather made everything feel fresh and bright, a perfect reward after the colder days.

🍽️ Post-Run Fuel

No post-run fuel this time — the only nearby option that was open was Elmo’s, and I didn’t feel like hanging out there after finishing my run. Next time, I should hit Burrito Bay or Lebro’s for a proper post-run treat.

🗒️ Notes for Next Time

Most of the loop is straightforward paved trail, with just a few puddles to watch out for. Perfect for pacing runs, maintenance miles, or even interval work if you want to break up the laps.
